The Garden is an expression of one man's vision and dedication. Ralph Arderne, who arrived in the Cape as an English immigrant in 1830, created this small gem of a garden, filling it with a diverse selection of trees and shrubs from the far corners of the earth. Today, Arderne Gardens is a home to perhaps the finest collection of mature Gondwana trees in the world.
The Arderne Gardens is a South African Provincial Heritage Site as designated by the National Monument placard near the entrance. Our 5 hectares containing more than 400 trees are directly managed by the City of Cape Town.
