A Commemorative Tree Planting Ceremony in Remembrance of the Hiroshima Atomic Bomb

 

The Friends of the Arderne Gardens, in collaboration with the Executive Mayor of Cape Town and representatives from the Japanese Consulate, invite the public to a poignant tree planting ceremony on Wednesday, 6 August 2025, at 11:00 AM. This event will take place at the Arderne Gardens, a cherished heritage site, to mark the 80th anniversary of the Hiroshima atomic bomb and honor the pursuit of peace and reconciliation.

The ceremony will feature the planting of a symbolic tree as a living tribute to the victims and survivors of the 1945 Hiroshima tragedy, reflecting hope, healing, and global unity. The Executive Mayor and Japanese Consulate representatives will deliver remarks, joined by community leaders and members of the Friends of the Arderne Gardens, who are dedicated to preserving this historic green space.
